Five minutes with Raimon Ariza

Raimon ArizaTell us about yourself

My name is Raimon Ariza but everyone calls me Rai. I'm an Audit Manager in Barcelona, Spain. I joined Baker Tilly almost six years ago and I have more than 13 years of professional experience in finance and, more specifically, in audit.

During my career, I have had the opportunity to interact with both national and international customers. Thanks to that I have learned about various organisation styles, and I've had the chance to work with people from different cultures. Through this journey, I have been able to learn a lot from all my colleagues.

Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

Outside of work I like doing sports such as football, running and playing paddle/tennis. I also support a club called RCD Espanyol, a football club from Barcelona. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. When I have a vacation I like to travel, in particular exploring new cities on foot. For me, it's vital to be willing to ask questions at the beginning of your career to try to learn as much as possible.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in accounting?

My advice would be to take it step by step as it’s a long-term journey. It's important to develop patience and to be open to new challenges that may arise across the organisation. For me, it’s vital to be willing to ask questions at the beginning of your career to try to learn as much as possible from people that you think can give you different points of view and improve your skills.

Who inspires you and why?

I don’t have specific idols. However, I'm inspired by elite sports players. I see them as strong people that fight for achieving their personal goals. All of them have something in common: they try to overcome the many challenges they might have every day.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the global Baker Tilly network?

The advantage of being part of a global network is that I can constantly be in contact with different cultures and exchange best practices throughout the various countries and teams. I particularly enjoy the fact that our leaders are always thinking of how to improve and offer a better quality service to our customers. Being part of an organisation that’s endorsing young people with strong know-how and innovative solutions makes me feel proud.

How do you see the future of the accounting industry changing?

In general, the market tends to get automatic solutions along almost all processes. This is increasing over the years. I see a challenge in the accounting industry in respect to always being in tune with the latest solutions the market requires. In addition, being able to provide strong quality standards will also be very important in the future. As a lot of countries are accepting IFRS rules as their local accounting principles, this can help improve the adoption of methods and approaches as experts will have the same source of knowledge. This can bring synergies and new ways of working.
