Tell us about yourself

I’m Manuel Aguilar, Managing Partner at Baker Tilly in Mexico. I live in Mexico City and before the pandemic, I used to travel a lot. I'm a husband and father of four girls, which leads me to the next question...

Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

In Mexico, we are very family-oriented, not only to the nuclear family but to the extended one as well. I like to do physical activities, such as hiking, walking and exercise. As a result of lockdown, I have developed a passion for cooking; you’re invited to be my guest anytime!

If you could give yourself one piece of advice when you started your career, what would it be?

Aim high. It is okay to fail, but once you've learned the lesson you need to move swiftly, keep learning all the time and try to surround yourself with smart and good people.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I cannot imagine a more interesting job than this, every day discovering new projects and meeting interesting and brave people, entrepreneurs, business and NGO's leaders, and at the same time assisting them to make things happen with a great team of committed, professional and sometimes, really funny people.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Careers and life never follow a straight line. Also, don't look for financial success as a goal; it is a consequence.

Mexico is a great country. It's in the middle of one of the largest markets in the world, still has a young population and has a unique culture. This combination allows us to exploit opportunities for investors and businesses. Being part of a global network gives us leverage to participate in interesting global projects such as media, manufacturing and information technology.

We are the firm of choice for midsize companies with international aspirations/operations. Increasingly, we are attracting leading companies as clients for speciality services such as tax, consulting and legal. We are constantly adding talent to our mix that enhances a virtuous circle of great relationships.
